Feeding the Lorikeets at San Diego Wild Animal Park

l.l.At the San Diego Wild Animal Park, you can buy a cup of nectar to feed the colorful birds of Lorikeet Landing. They were the best three dollars we spent on that trip. My son is an animal lover, and loved interacting with the birds. The minute we walked into the aviary, the Lorikeets swooped down on my son. At one point, there was about five Lorikeets on his arm, and climbing up his back. He handled it beautifully. I probably would have been running around shrieking to get the birds off me.

But in the end, when all of the juicy nectar was gone, this was the only Lorikeet left standing.

It’s Photo Friday time at Delicious Baby, go check out all the other travel photos.

Beautiful bird and great shot! Some of my fondest childhood memories are from the zoo and wild animal park in San Diego. Mostly memories of animals, but also when my brother vomited over the side of a double decker bus and it landed on everyone’s arms and cameras. The joys of traveling with kids! We tease him about it to this day.

Incidentally, wordpress blogs were recently unblocked in China where I live so this is the first time I’ve been able to visit your blog! I’ll be back!

That is a beautiful picture…however, I must admit that my children would not find themselves in the midst of that experience because I HATE birds…I am scared to death of them!!! My husband would have to take them there himself!!!

As as adult, even I still love being so close to these beautiful birds!

My son just checked out the photo and these were his comments, “It was surprising at first, because they pinch a little bit. And, remember that the birds were pooping on that girl’s arm?”
Nope, I forgot about the poop. Makes sense though.

What a fun experience. I have to admit that birds freak me out a little bit too, but I bet my kids would love that.

This is one of my kids favorite things to do at the Wild Animal Park. How lucky for you that the bird and your young man cooperated!

That story of your brother is both gruesome and funny, as are most child vomit stories. I will always sit on the top of those buses from now on, for sure.

Looks like we have a mini-theme here this week…your son, my bird lady!
This captures a nice moment between boy and bird. :)

See that’s what I thought too. I wondered if the bird was wondering what to peck at next.

I love the San Diego Wild Animal Park. There’s a safari style tour you can take there, and on it you get to feed the giraffes and rhinos. It was such an incredible experience.
